About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS trusts, providing a full range of hospital and community services including specialist care in cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory, and cardiovascular medicine. The Trust is home to world-class facilities such as the largest dental school in Europe, a £160 million Cancer Centre, and Evelina London Children’s Hospital. In 2021, the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined the Trust, creating a world-renowned heart and lung centre.

This role involves carrying out secretarial and administrative duties to provide an efficient and effective medical administration and secretarial service to the respiratory medicine care group, including designated consultants, junior medical staff, and the multidisciplinary team. You will facilitate the provision of information relating to patient appointments and admissions, provide cover for other medical secretaries, and support the wider division as needed.

The postholder will act as the first point of contact for patients and the public, handling telephone queries with tact and discretion, often dealing with sensitive situations. The majority of work is undertaken using the EPIC system, and experience with this system is advantageous.

Key responsibilities include liaising with outpatients and relevant departments to arrange appointments and investigations, coordinating patient admissions, communicating with external agencies, assisting with complaints processes, managing clinical and non-clinical documentation, scheduling procedures, managing consultant diaries and correspondence, and supporting service development and team activities.

The Trust values a culture of caring, ambition, and inclusivity, aiming to provide the highest quality patient care and a supportive working environment for staff. Flexible working arrangements are encouraged to support work-life balance.
