About the Role
This role is based at Morris House Group Practice and requires a dedicated Patient Care Administrator to provide an efficient and professional reception and administrative service. You will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, managing telephone enquiries, booking appointments, and providing information on local resources. Your responsibilities will include handling repeat prescription requests, managing patient correspondence, registering new patients, and maintaining patient records accurately using the EMIS computer system. You will also assist with general administrative duties, support the smooth running of the practice, and provide cover for colleagues as needed.
Maintaining a professional image of the practice is essential, including managing waiting-room facilities and notice boards. You will handle ad hoc issues, escalate concerns appropriately, and act as a first point of contact for complaints. The role involves working closely with the Patient Participation Group and assisting with minor repairs and IT support. You will be expected to operate within practice protocols, including confidentiality, health and safety, and infection control procedures.
This position requires adherence to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, promoting a safe and secure environment for staff and patients. You will support equality, diversity, and safeguarding policies, ensuring the welfare of vulnerable adults, children, and young people. Continuous personal and professional development is encouraged, including participation in training and annual development reviews.
Effective communication with patients, carers, and the practice team is vital, as is the ability to manage your own workload and contribute to the overall quality and performance of the practice.
Experience
Previous experience in a healthcare or administrative role is desirable but not essential. A willingness to learn and adapt to the practice's protocols and systems is required.
About you
You should be professional, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and a patient-focused approach are essential. You must be able to handle sensitive information confidentially and demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding. Flexibility to cover early and late shifts and provide cover for colleagues is important.
A proactive attitude towards personal and professional development is expected, including attending relevant training and keeping up to date with legislative changes affecting your role.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are strictly required; however, proficiency in IT systems, particularly EMIS or similar patient record systems, is advantageous. A positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow protocols and guidelines are essential for success in this role.
