About the Role
As a Pharmacy Technician working within a GP practice, you will collaborate closely with PCN and ICB Pharmacists, PCN Pharmacy Technicians, GP Prescribing Leads, and other GP staff to support the effective management and safe operation of the practice repeat prescribing system and associated prescribing processes. Your role will promote cost-effective use of medicines and minimise medicines waste. You will carry out medication reconciliation following hospital discharge and other transfers of care, including for newly registered patients, ensuring medication records are accurate and up to date. You will support the High Risk Drug Monitoring process and ensure all administrative work is completed to implement prescribing initiatives effectively.

You will be a reliable, trained, and informed resource for medicines-related administrative queries and promote the safe and effective use of medicines, supporting the provision of appropriate patient information in line with local pharmacy and medicines optimisation guidance. You will supervise, train, and update practice receptionists dealing with all aspects of repeat prescribing, making the best use of their skills and supporting competency checks annually.

Additionally, you will become a point of contact within and outside the surgery for medicines-related issues and develop effective relationships with local Community Pharmacies to enhance medicines management. Participation in practice-based audits and quality improvement initiatives, supporting data collection, review, and implementation of actions will be part of your responsibilities. You will also support the practice in responding to MHRA and CAS alerts, medicines recalls, and other medicines safety communications.

Supporting the management of shared care arrangements with specialist providers, ensuring documentation, monitoring, and communication are maintained according to practice protocols, will be essential. You will identify patients who may benefit from medication reviews and assist in booking and coordinating appointments with the appropriate clinician. Finally, you will support the practice in delivering relevant QOF, QIPP, and locally commissioned enhanced services.

Experience
Experience working within a pharmacy or healthcare setting is desirable, particularly in medicines management or repeat prescribing systems. Experience in liaising with healthcare professionals and community pharmacies is advantageous.

You should be reliable, organised, and able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively supervise and train practice staff and liaise with external providers. You must be proactive in promoting safe and cost-effective use of medicines and have a commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement.

Qualifications
Relevant Pharmacy Technician qualification required. Additional training or certification in medicines optimisation or related areas is desirable but not essential.
