Rail Delivery Group (RDG) partners with Britain’s train operators to put customers at the heart of everything we do, delivering essential services and dedicated experts who keep the nation’s railway running efficiently. From journey information, reservations and Railcards to improving performance, safety and accessibility, we drive the services and people that keep the railway moving. As we embark on a new era for rail, we are looking for a Portfolio Assurance Manager to join our Projects & Programmes team. This role will help improve delivery by devising and running project and programme assurance and elevating risk management across the portfolio.

You will lead and be involved in devising assurance processes, scheduling and leading assurance reviews, making recommendations and tracking their implementation. You will maintain and improve project and programme planning and management standards, provide coaching and support, and ensure risks and issues are identified, assessed and managed consistently in line with RDG standards.

Additional responsibilities include facilitating portfolio risk reviews, advising on risk quantification and mitigation, running the end-to-end portfolio reporting cycle, conducting rigorous PMO review and challenge activities, supporting inter-project dependency management, monitoring changes to project baselines, embedding organisational learning, ensuring excellent data quality, troubleshooting with project and programme managers, and contributing to the development of a high-performing PMO team.

This role is ideal for someone with genuine expertise in risk management and project/programme assurance combined with a natural ability to collaborate effectively with project and programme managers.

Experience
- Minimum 3 years PMO experience within a portfolio or large programme setting, owning, running and improving processes for positive impact.
- Strong understanding of project and programme management.
- Demonstrable experience of conducting project/programme assurance.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles, frameworks and processes, ideally backed by a qualification.
- Ability to analyse project and programme data and reports, and to challenge tactfully and effectively.
- Experience embedding learning into organisations beyond own area of responsibility.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A proactive, collaborative mindset.
- Experience as a Project Manager.

Qualifications
- Relevant PMO, project management or risk qualifications are desirable.
