About the Role
Join the Department of Health and Social Care and play a key role in communicating some of the most important issues in society today. As Press Secretary to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, you will be a senior member of a 24-hour media service managing risk and reputation, delivering real-time rebuttal as well as creative, original proactive media opportunities. You will oversee all communications for the Secretary of State, ensuring her priorities and agenda are understood by a wide range of audiences through traditional and non-traditional media channels.
Working closely with a high-profile cabinet minister, you will influence how policy is communicated in a prominent government department. As part of the Communications Management Team, you will help design and deliver communications strategy and lead a high-performing media team.

Experience
Proven media-related experience in a complex, high-profile environment subject to public, political, and media scrutiny. Ability to quickly identify issues of interest and operate effectively in a fast-paced 24/7 communications setting. Experience working on high-profile complex issues, building effective relationships with journalists and senior stakeholders, and confidently briefing at all levels to ensure accurate and informed reporting.
About you
Energetic, dynamic, and experienced communicator with highly developed written and oral communication skills. Ability to rapidly brief on complex issues, present clear and concise key messages, and confidently lead, inspire, and empower teams. Strong interpersonal skills to develop close working relationships with the Secretary of State, special advisers, private office, and senior officials. Qualifications
A background in health and social care is not essential. However, experience in media and communications is required. Candidates must demonstrate strategic media advice capabilities, leadership skills, and the ability to deliver effective communication strategies and products using sound judgement.
