Barnardo's are seeking 2 Project Workers to join our friendly and experienced team deliver our Short Breaks Service for children with disabilities, in the London Borough of Sutton. Part time role: 8.4 hours per week including Saturdays (Term Time) and 1 predetermined weekday during school holidays. Barnardo's are ambitious for children with disabilities in Sutton and want to support all children to experience positive outcomes. The Short Breaks service provides group-based activities for children with disabilities aged 8-18 years. We develop nurturing relationships to build on and promote children's independence, wellbeing, strengths, and capabilities. The groups offer safe and stimulating social environments, where children can develop friendships and take part in fun and engaging activities designed to support them to learn and develop skills that support their development towards adult life and independence. Most of all we want children to enjoy their time with us! The service is also plays a vital role in providing families and carers respite from their caring responsibilities. Groups are delivered every Saturday during term time and on a weekday during school holidays. School holiday days are pre-agreed wtih staff before they are shared with families. Annual leave applies and can of course be used against group delivery days. The Role Advertised hours of 8.4 hours per week are represented as an average across a 52 week period, and include additional paid hours for training, regular supervision and monthly team meetings. The working pattern is: Core group delivery on a Saturday between 9:45am-5:15pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch), term time only Core group delivery on a pre-agreed weekday between 9:45am-5:15pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch), school holidays Occassionally you may be asked to support outreach work for individual children to meet an individual target, this would be discussed and agreed on an ad-hoc basis where the need is identified. As such you should feel comfortable and competent in lone working against a risk assessment. This role is subject to a children and adult DBS check. Specific training will be provided for meeting particular care needs of children, as required. This role requires the post holder to be physically able to safely carry out work and caring duties with children with disabilities , i.e. moving and handling. Although this contract has a permanent status, please be aware that this post is subject to funding. Therefore, should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement. We would love to hear from you if you are someone who works with ambition, dignity, respect and compassion for children with disabilities, and someone who shows reliability, tenacity, creativity and resilience. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to deliver and contribute to a high-quality service for children, including the ability to foster positive, professional and meaningful relationships with children with disabilities. You should be able to respond to changing needs and adapt planned activities to support the individual and particular needs of children, following safety and safeguarding procedures at all times, including risk assessments. These skills along with your child-led, person-centred and wellbeing focussed approach should be evidenced in your application. It is helpful, but not essential (as training can be provided) if you have skills or experience in communication tools (such as Picture Exchange Communication or Makaton) and/or moving and handling.
