About the Role
If you are interested in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities while gaining qualifications to support your public health career, this apprenticeship is for you. Lambeth Council offers a Level 6 Public Health Practitioner Apprenticeship combining practical work within the Public Health team and academic study leading to a BSc Public Health degree.
During the apprenticeship, you will gain experience across a range of public health functions including prevention of ill health, health surveillance, health protection, and community engagement. You will support the planning, delivery, monitoring, evaluation, communication, and engagement of public health services, projects, and programmes.
You will work closely with the Public Health team within the Council’s Integrated Health and Care directorate, reporting to a Public Health Specialist and collaborating with wider Council and health partners. One day per week will be dedicated to university study.
This is a fixed term contract starting January 2026, lasting 36 months (plus up to 3 months for End Point Assessment depending on training provider). The role is open to external candidates only and requires eligibility for UK government apprenticeship funding and right to work in the UK.

Experience
No prior experience in public health or local authorities is required. Candidates should demonstrate how their existing knowledge and experience can be applied to this role.

Qualifications
- Must meet the minimum educational requirements for entry to the BSc Public Health degree
- Candidates with an existing undergraduate or Master’s degree (Level 6) in Public Health or a similar subject may not be eligible due to apprenticeship funding rules
- Right to work in the UK and appropriate visa covering the entire contract period if applicable
