About the Role
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. Our commitment extends to promoting fairness across gender, neurodiversity, and the poverty divide.
Hackney is a borough of contrasts and opportunities—stretching from the edge of the City to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it is a hub of rapid economic growth in tech, media, fashion, and the creative industries. With more green space than any other inner London borough, outstanding schools, world-class transport links, and thriving arts and culture, Hackney is fast becoming one of London’s most desirable places to live, work, and visit.
Our challenge is to ensure that regeneration and economic growth benefit all residents, creating opportunities that transform lives. We are looking for ambitious, creative professionals who share our commitment to inclusive growth and community impact.
Hackney’s Regeneration and Economic Development Service drives the Council’s strategic initiatives in key growth areas including Dalston, Shoreditch/Hoxton, Hackney Central, Hackney Wick, and Woodberry Down. The service champions borough-wide inclusive economic development and is committed to delivering an ambitious programme to create exemplary places, build new affordable homes, deliver new workspace, foster inclusive economic growth, and shape the future of the borough’s town centres in partnership with local residents and businesses.
The Council is seeking to recruit a dynamic and motivated Regeneration Officer to join its award-winning Regeneration and Economic Development Service. In this role, you will work across the service providing programme support and assisting the effective management of regeneration projects and programmes. You will quickly establish strong working relationships within the team to support the development, delivery, and management of regeneration initiatives across the borough.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering regeneration projects, leading the development and coordination of formal reporting, tracking progress and performance, helping the Council build on lessons learnt from projects, and identifying innovative approaches to address challenges and deliver improved outcomes.
As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our organisational goals. We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process and do not accept supporting statements or CVs. Applications require competency-based questions to demonstrate your suitability for the role.
We are working towards a vision to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud, a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone feels valued, included, and involved. We look for people who are Proud, Ambitious, Pioneering, Open, Proactive, and Inclusive.
Hackney Council is committed to eradicating discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class and welcome applications from disabled people and those interested in flexible working.
