About the Role
Join Network Rail - where people and connections matter. As a Route Accident & Assurance Investigator, you will lead serious investigations with professionalism and integrity, identifying both immediate and underlying causes. You will produce high-quality, timely reports that clearly justify recommendations and support continuous improvement. Building strong, collaborative relationships with route-based designated competent persons and investigators will be key to your success.

You will provide specialist advice, guidance, and knowledge-sharing to uplift investigation standards, enhance report quality, and embed best practices across teams. Managing and coordinating responses to queries and feedback relating to investigation reports will ensure all information is appropriately considered and addressed.

Developing constructive partnerships with external organisations, including other Railway Group Members, you will represent Network Rail in a way that fosters trust, respect, and confidence in the investigations led. You will coach, mentor, and support colleagues undertaking local accident investigations, contributing to their development and ensuring recommendations are effectively implemented.

Reviewing and analysing a wide range of reports and emerging data, you will understand performance trends, assess assurance process effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement. Producing clear, evidence-based reviews and thematic reports, you will draw meaningful insights about safety, environmental management systems, and risk controls.

Championing our culture principles, you will embed fairness, openness, and a learning-focused approach into all investigations and interactions. You will carry out safety assurance and confidence measurement activities, including on-site verification, either proactively based on emerging trends or as directed by the safety team.

Network Rail offers generous annual leave plus statutory days with options to buy or sell additional leave, a defined benefit pension scheme, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, and travel benefits including subsidised rail and underground season tickets. Additional benefits include interest-free loans for season tickets and station car parking, health and wellbeing support, enhanced family policies, and carer's leave recognising caring responsibilities outside of work.

All offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks. The closing date for applications is 09 August 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
