Location
Elgin Ave., London. The office is located at Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BT, and current policy requires the successful candidate to attend the office 60% of their working week.
Hours
Full time, with flexible working arrangements available including job sharing, term-time working, flexi-time and compressed hours. Most employees work a hybrid pattern spending at least 60% of their time in an office or work setting.
Salary
£40,132 per annum. The Department for Education contributes £11,626 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
About the Role
As a Schools Delivery Officer, you will be part of the Department for Education’s main interface for academy trusts and local authorities across the South East of England. You will join one of the teams overseen by the Regional Director for the South East, responsible for stewardship of the school system across the country.
Your key responsibilities will include supporting underperforming schools by identifying structural solutions or brokering school improvement support, using quantitative and qualitative evidence to make recommendations on academy status changes, managing free schools projects from inception to delivery, and ensuring academy trusts comply with safeguarding and whistleblowing policies.
You will also identify and assess trust governance concerns, undertake desk-based assessments, seek assurances, challenge non-compliance, and intervene where breaches of the Academy Trust Handbook are identified. Maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders including multi-academy trusts, local authorities and maintained schools is essential.
Additionally, you may support work that cuts across regions or has national significance, such as contributing to national portfolio work streams, data analysis, briefing colleagues, monitoring progress, and suggesting continuous improvements.
Experience
A proven track record of delivering high-quality work across a diverse range of tasks to demanding timelines. Ability to accurately analyse and interpret data to inform decision making, with confidence to make recommendations and escalate when necessary. Skilled in managing multiple work strands using a range of tools and techniques, ensuring quality and timely delivery. Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to negotiate and influence a wide range of stakeholders, and a strong team player.
