About the Role
Ever wondered what it takes to build Amazon's massive global network and how we ensure every dollar spent on construction delivers maximum value? As a Senior Cost Engineering Manager, you will own cost engineering on large-scale construction projects and help shape the future of AI-powered cost intelligence. This is not a back-office analytics role; you will influence multi-million-dollar supplier negotiations, present to senior leadership, and support the development of tools that will transform how Amazon's Global Procurement Organization models, negotiates, and manages construction costs worldwide.

Construction is one of Amazon's largest and most complex procurement categories. Each project is unique, with varying site conditions, local labor markets, permit requirements, and material constraints. This demands a fresh, bottom-up deep dive each costing cycle: decomposing cost structures, stress-testing assumptions against local market realities, and building analytics that reflect true cost drivers.

You will bring deep construction industry expertise combined with a forward-looking mindset, co-creating AI-driven tools that scale your impact far beyond individual projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end should-costing on large-scale construction projects by reverse engineering supplier pricing to determine true costs of parts, labor, manufacturing, assemblies, overheads, and profit margins
- Build reliable bottom-up cost models simulating industry benchmarks with fact-based calculations to serve as anchoring price targets in negotiations
- Challenge supplier quotations with rigorous technical analysis to drive transparency and meaningful cost reductions
- Present should-cost findings and recommendations to senior leadership, acting as a trusted internal consultant
- Co-develop AI-powered costing tools and provide scalable datasets alongside AI & MI solutions teams
- Coordinate with other sourcing excellence pillars and capabilities across multiple regions to expand global should-costing footprint
- Establish and evolve should-cost methodologies during design and specification phases in collaboration with category managers, engineers, and construction teams
- Advise stakeholders on cost impacts of specification changes and identify design-to-cost opportunities with suppliers
- Define KPIs and scorecard metrics to track supplier cost performance and strengthen long-term partnerships
- Drive change management by introducing new costing approaches across procurement and supply base

About the Team
Cost Engineering answers one fundamental question for Amazon: Are we paying the right price? We combine deep technical expertise with advanced analytical methodologies such as should-cost modeling, market intelligence, and cost driver decomposition to deliver transparent, fact-based insights that empower procurement teams to negotiate with confidence. Our vision is to make cost transparency a strategic capability across the organization, ensuring every procurement decision reflects what something should cost, not just what the market offers. We manage billions in spend across Amazon Global Procurement Organization with exponential growth since the team's formation in 2022.

Requirements

Experience
- Using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Leading large and complex negotiations
- Program or project management
- Demonstrated supply chain experience

About You
You are a strategic thinker with deep construction industry expertise and a forward-looking mindset. You are comfortable collaborating across teams and regions, influencing senior leadership, and driving change management. You have experience working alongside AI teams, curating training data, validating model outputs, and identifying opportunities for intelligent automation to multiply impact.

Qualifications
- Master's degree or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design, or related field preferred
- Experience driving process and tool improvements
- Experience leveraging AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics to improve cost modeling, automate procurement workflows, or build scalable datasets is a strong differentiator. You do not need to be a data scientist but should be comfortable enabling AI tools in a procurement or engineering context.
