About the Role
Brightrock Games is a plucky, independent, fully-remote video game studio primarily based in the UK, known for the widely praised Galacticare and War for the Overworld. Our core team is united by a passion for building brighter universes and creating genre-twisting 3D simulation and management games with a quirkily British sense of humour.

We are seeking a Senior Environment Artist to join our team for a 12-month contract working on Kaiju Cleanup. You will be part of a highly passionate team of developers pushing the boundaries of traditional game genres. In this role, you will shape the visual identity of our worlds by translating high-level design concepts into immersive, readable, and technically sound 3D environments.

You will be responsible for directing the environment art style and quality, building and texturing a wide range of assets, creating and polishing high-quality 3D environments within tight performance constraints, and collaborating closely with design, production, technical, VFX, and lighting teams to ensure environments support gameplay and storytelling while maintaining performance and visual fidelity.

Requirements

Experience
- Senior level experience with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality environment work on at least one shipped PC/Console title.
- Expert proficiency in industry-standard 3D tools such as Blender or 3ds Max.
- Deep understanding of PBR texturing workflows, preferably with Substance Suite.
- Extensive experience working within Unity, including Prefab management, ProBuilder (or similar), and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), or ability to quickly learn if primarily experienced in Unreal.
- Strong artistic eye with a solid grasp of composition, colour theory, and lighting to guide player focus within complex scenes.
- Passion for working in a small indie games development team where collaboration and contribution are key.

About you
- You thrive on the unique challenges of building assets for novel games within a tight-knit indie team.
- You have a keen eye for art quality and lighting.
- You are collaborative, adaptable, and motivated to help create something special.
- You are comfortable working remotely and managing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications
- While formal qualifications are not specified, demonstrable experience and a strong portfolio are essential.
- Nice to have skills include:
- Performance optimization experience managing draw calls, LODs, and texture atlasing.
- Technical art skills such as tweaking lighting within Unity.
- Procedural generation skills using tools like Houdini to accelerate environment art creation.
