About the Role
MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats such as terrorism and hostile state actions by obtaining, analysing and assessing intelligence, working alongside partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through its protective security arm, MI5 also advises government departments, businesses and other organisations on security measures.
As a Senior Internal Auditor within the Internal Audit and Consultancy function, you will lead and deliver a diverse portfolio of high-impact audit and advisory work. Your role will provide high-quality assurance to enhance risk management, governance, and internal control arrangements, including technology audit activities reflecting their growing importance.
You will work at pace, managing internal audit assurance and advisory work across MI5, MI6, and GCHQ, covering unique intelligence community topics such as mission-focused capabilities and legal framework adherence. Your work will range from leading small teams on projects to conducting independent reviews, ensuring quality, budget, and timescale commitments are met.

You will be based in London or Cheltenham and must live within a commutable distance. A relocation loan is available to support moves to London.
Experience
Proven experience as a Senior Internal Auditor with a broad and demonstrable range of audit experience, including leading complex, risk-based internal audits and applying audit methodologies. Experience auditing corporate, operational, and IT general controls such as access management, change management, disaster recovery, vulnerability management, software development, and service management. Some technology audit experience is required, with a keen interest in further development. Experience managing and developing junior auditors is desirable.
Experience engaging and influencing stakeholders at senior levels, delivering difficult messages, and negotiating collaboratively is essential. Knowledge of cyber security, cloud computing, AI, and data governance is desirable but not essential.
Experience providing assurance over transformation programmes is advantageous but not required.

You are a credible communicator, able to produce clear, high-quality audit reports and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. You have a proactive mindset and the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
You are committed to continuous professional development and keen to deepen your technical skills, particularly in technology auditing.
Qualifications
You must hold a relevant professional qualification such as IIA, CCAB or equivalent. A CISA qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential. You will be supported to achieve further qualifications and training to enhance your technology audit expertise.
