About the Role
Royal Air Force (RAF) Air Media and Communications (Air M&C) is responsible for delivering communications that influence how people inside and outside the RAF understand, engage with, and think about the Service. Air M&C is organised into three executive areas: Strategy and Planning, External Communications and Engagement, and Internal and Change Communications. The team works closely with Ministry of Defence (MOD) communications, other Armed Forces communications teams, and the wider RAF Family of organisations supporting the Whole Force.

The Internal Communications team manages all corporate internal communications to the RAF Whole Force of over 30,000 personnel, including regulars, reserves, civilians, and contractors. Outputs include RAF 60 Seconds, weekly Commanders’ Briefs, Blogs, Town Halls, Secret video conferences for the Chief of the Air Staff, and bespoke internal communications campaigns. The team also manages content on the RAF Intranet, Defence Connect, and the MyRAF App, maintaining close relationships with key stakeholders, particularly in the People Area of Responsibility.

Reporting to the Grade 7 Head of Internal & Change Communications, the Senior Internal Communications Manager will ensure all RAF internal communications are objective-driven and aligned with strategic priorities for the RAF and MOD. This role includes line management of two Higher Executive Officer posts, one of which manages the Executive Officer RAF Intranet manager.

The role requires applying Government Communication Service (GCS) methodology for campaign planning, delivering professional communications consultancy to senior leaders, and working collaboratively with military and civilian HR practitioners to enhance employee engagement. The Senior Internal Communications Manager will lead cross-functional teams, evaluate communications outputs, and explore new interactive, two-way communication channels.

This position is part of the Government Communication Service and uses the OASIS framework for strategic communications campaign planning, focusing on Insight, Ideas, Implementation, and Impact.
