About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer within the Crossing Technology team at Nomura's Instinet division, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing the performance of Instinet’s Crossing Systems, including the BlockMatch MTF and CBX crossing applications. You will contribute to the vision and technical direction of Instinet's core trading systems, working closely with business stakeholders and senior architects to design and deliver high-quality, low-latency trading software.

Your key responsibilities will include eliciting and analysing requirements, implementing solutions in line with Nomura software standards, and owning the full software lifecycle from design through to production. You will also engage in performance engineering to improve system latency, provide 2nd level support during UK/US market hours, and collaborate with deployment and Change Management teams to ensure smooth production integration.

Additionally, you will produce technical documentation, participate in peer reviews, and provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members, helping to strengthen the overall quality and capability of the team.

Experience
- Proven experience with equities trading systems, preferably in crossing/matching engines.
- Proficient understanding of FIX protocol trading workflows from the venue/exchange perspective.
- Strong background in developing high volume, low-latency trading systems in Java, including performance running, profiling, and monitoring.
- Familiarity with performance engineering methods and techniques.
- Experience with source code version control systems such as SVN and GIT.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments supporting mission-critical systems.
- Knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies, Microservices, distributed systems, and messaging architectures.
- Strong core Java skills, with additional experience in Perl or Python.
- Good knowledge of SQL, Linux, and networking.
