About the Role
As a Senior Occupational Psychologist at the Ministry of Justice, you will support the Principal Occupational Psychologists and Head of Occupational Psychology Centre of Expertise in delivering a proactive advisory and consultancy service that meets business needs and complies with Civil Service Recruitment Principles and professional standards. You will contribute to psychological research and consultancy supporting MOJ People Function’s resourcing activities, providing expert advice on recruitment, selection, and assessment across the MOJ Group.
Your responsibilities will include line management and professional development of team members, contributing to the design and evaluation of employee selection procedures, applying professional judgement to select appropriate psychological tools, and delivering evidence-based advice on psychological and behavioural implications of client plans. You will work closely with the wider Resourcing, Selection and Onboarding team and other stakeholders to deliver projects on time.
Additional duties include overseeing psychological interventions, research and evaluation, designing and delivering training for assessors and interviewers, conducting complex statistical analyses to ensure assessment outcomes are reliable, valid, and legally defensible, and providing Occupational Psychology guidance across the wider MoJ People Function.
Experience
- Leading end-to-end projects within the consultancy cycle
- Working with clients to diagnose issues and suggest strategies for change
- Designing and evaluating a wide range of assessment solutions including interviews, assessment centre exercises, and online assessments
- Conducting job analysis and competency framework/Success Profile design
- Conducting behavioural assessments and interviews
- Using psychometric tools and ability tests for recruitment
- Designing and delivering training courses
- Using data and evidence to inform decision making
About you
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. You will demonstrate behaviours including Seeing the Big Picture, Making Effective Decisions, Managing a Quality Service, and Communicating and Influencing. You will also exhibit the technical behaviour of being an Ambassador and possess consultancy, research, and evaluation skills at a senior level.
Qualifications
- British Psychological Society Qualification in Occupational Psychology Stage 2 or completion of Part 1 and Part 2 of a professional doctorate in occupational psychology, conferring Chartered Member status with the BPS and Full Member of the Division of Occupational Psychology
- Registered Occupational Psychologist with the HCPC
- Test User qualifications: Occupational Ability (Level A equivalent) and Occupational Personality (Level B equivalent)
- Good understanding of recruitment legislation and Occupational Psychology best practice and their impact on assessment design and delivery
- Competent in statistical analysis, e.g., using SPSS
