About the Role
The way academic research is communicated globally is evolving rapidly. Validated research data is increasingly consumed at scale through AI tools and machine intelligence, creating a pivotal moment in research communication. Springer Nature is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the business through this transition. This role focuses on how world-leading research and academic content published by Springer Nature reaches wider audiences and is used by students, researchers, healthcare professionals, and the public to engage with cutting-edge research.

Key responsibilities include ensuring content is discovered as expected in 2026 and beyond, accurately represented with academic rigour, fairly attributed to researchers and publishers, and protected from misuse. This individual contributor role offers opportunities to grow into management or senior IC positions.

You will be responsible for:
- Driving discoverability of Springer Nature research journal and book content outside of Springer Nature's platforms
- Increasing content reading sessions from widely-used discovery platforms such as Google and PubMed
- Establishing and evolving partnerships with trusted research communication partners like Google Scholar
- Developing and delivering Springer Nature's strategy for content use in AI-powered tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude)
- Leading content protection strategies in collaboration with internal teams (e.g., anti-piracy, Legal)
- Prioritising roadmaps and working closely with engineers, designers, UX researchers, and data analysts to execute initiatives

Success in this role will be measured by driving key metrics tied to Springer Nature’s core business models, demonstrating clear value to Subscription, Transformative Agreement, and Open Access publishing revenue lines.

You will collaborate closely with:
- Head of Product on overall discovery strategy
- Product Managers focused on on-platform content discovery and researcher workflows
- Product Managers and business leaders evolving business models and customer value communication
- Product Managers responsible for foundational technology and data products
- Product Managers responsible for Solutions products to identify and execute revenue opportunities
- User Experience Researchers and Product Data Analysts
- Cross-functional delivery teams to create and execute roadmaps

Requirements

Experience
- Proven product leader with a strong history of translating business objectives and user insights into actionable product roadmaps
- Demonstrable success managing customer-focused digital products
- Experience delivering product outcomes across commercial, behavioural, qualitative, and quantitative measures
- Skilled in agile delivery environments with the ability to influence engineering teams and support technical capability development
- Experienced in managing products across the full lifecycle from inception through optimisation to retirement

About you
- Deeply user-centred with strong ability to understand customer needs and translate them into valuable product outcomes
- Highly collaborative with a proven track record working effectively with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills, able to tailor messaging for senior leaders, delivery teams, and external partners
- Data-driven and confident using quantitative and qualitative evidence to inform decisions and articulate rationale
- Effective at navigating ambiguity and complexity while maintaining clarity of direction and supporting team alignment
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and facilitation skills enabling timely and effective decision-making

Desirable Experience
- Experience working with content to drive offsite visibility (e.g., SEO, GEO strategies)
- Experience designing and delivering content protection policies and strategies (e.g., Web Application Firewalls)
- Experience working in research communication or media/publishing

Qualifications
Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable professional experience
