About the Role
Orchard Therapeutics is a global biotechnology gene therapy company dedicated to transforming the lives of people affected by rare diseases through innovative, potentially curative cell and gene therapies. Reporting to the Principal Scientist, Global Technical Development, the Senior Scientist - ELN & Data Specialist will serve as the organisation's subject-matter expert for the Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) platform, responsible for its configuration, governance and continuous improvement across R&D laboratories.

This role is primarily focused on enabling Technical Development (TD) activities while supporting research efforts. The Senior Scientist will be accountable for defining standards and best practices for ELN use, guiding scientists and superusers, and managing hands-on administration, configuration, and ongoing development of the ELN platform to support laboratory operations and good data management practices.

Key responsibilities include coordinating user requirements to develop fit-for-purpose ELN tools, building and maintaining data repositories within TD to support data-driven scientific innovation and decision making, and collaborating with R&D, Quality, and laboratory informatics teams. The role also involves supporting integrations between ELN and other systems, developing dashboards and reports, evaluating new ELN features, and providing training and technical support to users.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience working in a scientific laboratory environment (academia, biotech or pharma) with substantial hands-on ELN administration experience.
- Demonstrated ability to configure and customise ELN platforms (Benchling preferred) including schemas, modules and workflows.
- Understanding of process development and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards including GxP, ALCOA+ principles, and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.

- Strong collaboration, communication and stakeholder management skills, able to translate between scientific, quality and lab informatics audiences.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, take ownership and prioritise competing demands in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment and delivering under tight timelines.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering or a related field.
- Desirable: Knowledge of cell and gene therapy industry.
- Desirable: Experience designing and implementing system integrations using APIs.
- Desirable: Experience with statistical modelling, DoE, multivariate data analysis and process analytics (e.g. JMP).
- Desirable: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
