About the Role
The Acute Respiratory Infections team within UK Health Security Agency’s TARZET division at Colindale provides specialist epidemiology and surveillance, coordinates national outbreak investigations, advises government on risks from acute respiratory pathogens, and responds to international health concerns. As a Senior Scientist, you will work on surveillance, epidemiology, and outbreak investigations of acute respiratory infections. You will develop, manage, and maintain surveillance databases and provide scientific support for national and international surveillance programmes, research projects, and outbreak investigations. This includes designing new surveillance and data management systems in collaboration with epidemiologists and specialists, conducting complex statistical analyses, and producing surveillance outputs.

You will manage technical and analytical aspects of outbreak investigations, coordinate data collection, advise incident teams, and contribute to scientific publications and reports. You will also contribute to research proposals, coordinate data collection from collaborators, and conduct statistical analyses for grant-funded projects.

Requirements

Experience
- Interpreting and evaluating epidemiological data using Access/SQL databases, spreadsheets, statistical and graphics packages at an advanced level
- Conducting statistical analysis of large and complex epidemiological datasets
- Managing epidemiological studies and outbreak investigations
- Writing scientific papers and project reports
- Working independently and as an effective team member
- Communicating ideas and methods clearly with excellent oral and written skills
- Identifying and solving practical problems
- Managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
- Analyzing complex issues with conflicting data from multiple sources
- Acting on incomplete information using experience for decision making

About you

- Experience presenting scientific papers at national and international conferences is desirable
- Skilled in creating and delivering presentations to diverse internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications
- First degree in a science subject
- Higher degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or allied subject
- Postgraduate work or study in public health, epidemiology or allied subject
