About the Role
The Department for Education is seeking an experienced Senior Social Media Manager to join our social media team on a fixed term contract. This role is central to managing and publishing social content across departmental channels and collaborating with third party storytellers. You will work closely with senior communications colleagues, videographers, creatives, and key stakeholders including ministers, Special Advisors, and other government departments to grow audiences and engagement.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and a proven track record in social media communications, digital storytelling, and working with creators. You will be enthusiastic about online news media, able to think strategically and creatively about specific audiences, pitch innovative ideas, brief teams on content concepts, and possess expert knowledge of social media platforms.

You will be fascinated by digital storytelling, skilled in analytics, and capable of planning ahead, reacting in the moment, and spotting opportunities to enhance existing content and introduce new content strands.

This role requires someone who is highly organised, results driven, resourceful, a strong communicator, trusted copywriter, and a team player looking for a unique challenge that makes a genuine difference at the heart of government.

Key responsibilities include managing content output on DfE organic and ministerial social media channels, leading reactive and proactive projects, shaping content and social strategy, advising colleagues on platform best practices, building relationships with external creators and public figures, ensuring the right tone of voice, managing the social publishing schedule, contributing to asset production, and analysing content performance with recommendations.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking part time or compressed working patterns, with a minimum of 30 contracted hours per week over 4 days.
