About the Role
Aurora is a distributed, fault-tolerant database service leveraging a self-healing storage system that performs up to five times faster than standard MySQL databases and three times faster than standard PostgreSQL databases. The AWS Aurora Control Plane Developer Experience team focuses on improving the Aurora customer experience through innovative projects such as Ultra Fast Create, which reduced cluster creation time from six minutes to mere seconds. We are seeking Software Development Engineers with extensive software development experience, including shipping products, management consoles, services, and modules. You should be passionate about optimizing software development at large scale, motivated to achieve results, and enthusiastic about learning new technologies and solving complex technical challenges.
Aurora is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which delivers product innovations across foundational services like Amazon S3 and Amazon EC2, as well as new product features that differentiate AWS in the cloud industry. As a member of the UC organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services, including specialized security solutions for cloud customers. Experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
- Professional software development experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience leading architecture and design of new and existing systems, focusing on reliability and scalability
- Recent development experience within the last 3 years

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent preferred
