About the Role
The Payments Service team is at the heart of Tesco Technology, serving 28 million shoppers in the UK and abroad. We deliver HTTP services that reliably manage payments at global scale, 24 hours a day, every day. Our systems handle 100 million transactions and billions of events per day, processing a billion pounds every week. At the core of our operation are APIs that support a variety of payment methods including cash, card, and gift card across stores, fuel stations, and online. We also support wallet behaviours, repeat payments, refunds, and identity checks.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer at Tesco, you will be responsible for the entire development and support lifecycle of software programmes. Your applications simplify complex tasks, delivering impact ranging from saving time and effort to redefining normal business processes. While day-to-day coding is a key part of the role, you will also lead design and architecture efforts and mentor team members.

We follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) and a 'you build it, you run it' DevOps culture. Automation and continuous improvement in testing and deployment are key focus areas.

Key responsibilities include developing scalable frontend systems using .Net, producing test-driven features, applying software design principles to build maintainable systems, collaborating with product stakeholders to translate needs into improvements, breaking down work for incremental delivery, facilitating system design discussions, supporting production systems and incident resolution, sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and producing proof of concepts to evaluate new tools.

Experience
- Strong experience using .Net/C# with eagerness to adopt new technologies
- Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
- Experience working in agile environments and following Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Experience with ecommerce payment systems is desirable but not essential
