About the Role
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. Our commitment extends to promoting fairness across gender, neurodiversity, and socio-economic divides.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Service Charge Officer to join our dedicated Service Charge Team on a fixed term / secondment basis for 12 months. In this role, you will be responsible for calculating service charges, reserve funds, shared ownership rent, and ground rent, while ensuring excellent customer service to our residents.

Your key responsibilities will include collaborating with colleagues to produce accurate estimated and actual invoices, maintaining the service charge database, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will collate financial records for property service charges and manage accountancy functions related to billing and recharging. Additionally, you will issue Section 20B notices and provide supporting information for leaseholder inquiries, disputes, and legal challenges.

As part of our team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of Homeownership Services, prepare performance reports, assist with budget monitoring, and engage with residents and stakeholders through meetings and inspections to maintain high service standards.

Hackney Council values its staff as its most outstanding asset, dedicated to serving residents and committed to our organisational goals. We foster a workplace culture that is proud, ambitious, pioneering, open, proactive, and inclusive.

Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including residents, colleagues, and legal teams.
