About the Role
This role sits within the Improvement and Insights division of the Department for Education, which leads cross-departmental projects and improvement programmes. The division encompasses a wide range of skills including project management, change and engagement, and software development.

The successful candidate will support the Financial Benchmarking and Insights Tool (FBIT), a gov.uk service currently in public beta that provides benchmarking services to schools, local authorities and trusts across England. You will work alongside internal teams and third-party suppliers to support ongoing development and user feedback integration.

Key responsibilities include frontline response to sector queries on FBIT, coordinating and running webinars, supporting testing before releases, managing bug reporting and resolution with suppliers, delivering communication plans, maintaining up-to-date guidance on gov.uk, liaising with commercial and departmental colleagues, and providing project support across the division.

This role includes completion of the Improvement Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3), which takes 14 to 18 months (pro rata for part time). The apprenticeship will develop your skills and knowledge in line with the apprenticeship standard. Commitment to completing the training is expected.

Experience
Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, manage enquiries and provide clear, timely communications.
Ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple tasks while supporting project delivery and meeting deadlines.
Ability to identify issues, take ownership and drive them through to resolution.
Ability to gather, analyse and interpret information, producing accurate outputs and recommendations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, professional communications.

Qualifications
You must meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria:
- Have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date.
- Not be undertaking another apprenticeship simultaneously.
- Not already possess the skills and knowledge covered by the apprenticeship standard.
- Not have previously worked in a similar role or have prior learning covering the apprenticeship content.
- Not hold a degree or equivalent as an Improvement Technician.
