About the Role
As a SHE Manager - Environment at SGN, you will play a key role in delivering safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. You will build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support compliance with environmental legislation and company standards. Your responsibilities will include providing environmental advice and guidance, supporting legal compliance, and contributing to the Compliance & Assurance programme.

You will manage the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 requirements, supporting external audits and driving continuous improvement through internal audits and reviews. Monitoring environmental performance against agreed targets, undertaking site inspections and audits, and supporting the review and development of environmental procedures and guidance documents will be key parts of your role.

You will lead waste management activities within your region, identify opportunities for improvement, and carry out duty of care audits. Providing environmental support for permit applications, investigating environmental incidents to identify root causes, and supporting improvement actions will also be essential.

Additionally, you will develop and share environmental communications and guidance across the business and support the delivery of the Environmental Action Plan (EAP). SGN offers a hybrid working model and a comprehensive benefits package including a joint-contribution pension from 6% (12% total), enhanced maternity and family leave, life assurance, HolidayPlus, Virtual GP, Employee Assistance Programme, and retail and leisure discounts among others.

Requirements

Experience
A qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g. diploma or degree) and/or relevant professional experience is required. Experience working in environmental, compliance, governance, auditing, or management systems roles is essential. Knowledge of environmental management systems and ISO 14001 requirements, as well as understanding environmental legislation and regulatory compliance principles, is necessary.

Familiarity with safety management systems, safety cases, investigations, auditing processes, and document control practices would be beneficial.

About you
You will have the ability to analyse information, prepare reports, and work collaboratively with operational teams and stakeholders. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, with the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels. You should be able to manage priorities, organise your workload, and work independently where appropriate.

SGN values diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives and encourages applications from all candidates, including those who may not meet every requirement but are eager to learn and contribute.

Qualifications
Professional memberships and certifications such as IEMA/ISEP membership, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent experience are desirable but not essential.
