Introducing Rufus: Amazon's expert shopping assistant trained on Amazon's product catalog and information from across the web. Rufus answers customer questions on shopping needs, products, and comparisons, makes recommendations based on context, and facilitates product discovery.

This role is part of a strategic team building new software systems and customer experiences to expand Rufus's availability to new customer cohorts. The team has high visibility with senior leadership and offers the opportunity to build and launch AI-powered customer experiences from the ground up. You will work closely with exceptional product, engineering, and science leaders.

Key responsibilities include influencing the strategic direction by understanding the intersection of business needs and technical capabilities, providing technical leadership and career guidance, fostering a culture of engineering and operational excellence, defining and building a high-performance engineering culture, collaborating closely with engineering, science, design, and product teams in an agile environment, and managing escalations and trade-offs between business needs and technical constraints.

A typical day involves managing a highly talented team of Software Development Engineers on the Rufus Detail Page team, interacting with product, program, and other Amazon teams to clarify requirements, build execution plans, unblock the team tactically, and define strategic visions to improve efficiency and deliver superior solutions for Amazon's customers.

Experience
- Proven experience in engineering team management
- Strong engineering background with knowledge of full software/hardware/network development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
- Experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
- Experience designing or architecting scalable, reliable systems using design patterns
- Experience working directly within engineering teams and partnering with product and program management
