We are building a brand-new world where shopping is effortless and intuitive by leveraging state-of-the-art Large Language Models and generative AI to create live, two-way natural language conversational shopping and search experiences that are fast, helpful, and trustworthy. As customers seek deeper insights earlier in their shopping journeys, we synthesize complex information and multiple perspectives to help them explore Amazon's vast catalog and find products that solve their specific needs.

Imagine an AI assistant that engages in back-and-forth conversations to help articulate problems, answer product questions, and provide trustworthy advice and recommendations. This assistant also proactively predicts and fulfills shopping needs, reducing mental load and saving customers time and money. Our vision is to build this AI assistant as the digital equivalent of a helpful salesperson who understands customer needs, navigates the store, and suggests complementary goods.

This role offers the unique opportunity to embed economic expertise into large-scale generative models and shape the future of AI-driven shopping. As a senior technical leader, you will collaborate with talented scientists, economists, engineers, and product leaders to innovate on behalf of customers and help establish generative AI shopping as Amazon's next major business pillar.

Experience
- Managing teams of high-caliber Software Engineers developing complex, scalable software systems successfully delivered to customers
- Designing or architecting new and existing systems with focus on design patterns, reliability, and scaling
- Leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
- Knowledge of engineering practices across the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
- Partnering effectively with product and program management teams

About you
- Skilled communicator able to engage with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements and describe product features, technical designs, and strategy
- Experienced in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing Software Engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness
- Proven ability to deliver products on plan in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, distributed, and often ambiguous environments
- Experience developing, deploying, and managing AI products at scale is highly desirable
