About the Role
As a Specialist Prosecutor in the Crown Prosecution Service's high-performing and prestigious Extradition Unit, you will handle sensitive, demanding, and high-profile casework. Your role involves representing foreign states’ interests in their requests to England and Wales for wanted persons, and preparing and submitting requests to foreign states for those wanted here. You will review overseas requests received from the UK Central Authority for evidential sufficiency under Part 2 of the Extradition Act 2003, prepare and provide advice to foreign judicial authorities, manage appeals to the High Court, and work closely with counsel to ensure the strongest cases are presented in court. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Policy, Home Office, National Crime Agency, HM Courts Service, and foreign states throughout proceedings. This role requires a commitment to excellence and the ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment.

Experience
You must be a qualified practising solicitor or barrister holding a valid Practising Certificate for England and Wales with at least five years post-qualification experience.

Qualifications
You must be legally qualified as a solicitor or barrister able to obtain a valid Practising Certificate for England and Wales. CILEx lawyers must be Fellows of CILEx and hold all three advocacy certificates, meeting the requirements for a Crown Prosecutor. Solicitors must hold a qualifying law degree or equivalent, have passed the Common Professional Examination or Graduate Diploma in Law and/or the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), completed two years of qualifying work experience, and be admitted to the roll of solicitors by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or have full exemption. Barristers must hold a qualifying law degree (or equivalent), have completed the Bar Training/Practice Course, been formally called to the Bar, and successfully completed pupillage or have full exemption. Equivalent qualifications are not accepted. You must be fully qualified at the point of application and able to provide your practising certificate promptly if successful. Any restrictions on your practising certificate must be disclosed immediately.

Memberships
You must hold a valid practising certificate for England and Wales or be eligible to obtain one from the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board. CILEx qualified applicants must hold a ‘general qualification’ under s.71(3)(c) Courts and Legal Services Act 1990.
