About the Role
Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems (ASCS) builds and operates the world's largest e-Commerce product catalog, powering the online buying experience for customers worldwide. Our distributed systems process hundreds of millions of updates across billions of products spanning physical, digital, and service offerings. We develop advanced algorithms and build systems and tools to ensure catalog safety and maximize impact on Amazon's top-line growth while continuously expanding selection.

As a System Development Engineer I within the Catalog Services Support Team under Catalog Support and Programs (CSP), you will provide critical service level issue support to ASCS Engineering teams responsible for tier 1-3 systems. Your responsibilities include maintaining software packages and configurations free from vulnerabilities, setting up and monitoring new metrics and alarms, and driving root cause analysis and resolution of recurring issues. You will build tools to improve operational efficiency and support software deployment in staging and production environments.

This role requires strong system and tool coding skills, a solid understanding of AWS services, and the ability to work with data from multiple sources. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver analytical solutions. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges. You will work cross-functionally and use data to drive process improvements.

Key responsibilities include handling incoming system and service tickets across multiple products and services, delivering logical and maintainable solutions on time, learning and applying engineering best practices, identifying and scoping problems and opportunities, contributing to operational excellence, troubleshooting defects, and managing compliance risks for ASCS systems.

A typical day involves solving root problems with a broad perspective, proactively addressing issues, adapting to various tasks and new technologies, maintaining quality and integrity, and working professionally within team processes with a positive, can-do attitude.

About the team: Catalog Support and Programs (CSP) provides program management and worldwide user technical support as a single point of contact for catalog system issues. The team owns business logic implementation and configurations, increases selection by onboarding new vendors and integrating catalog feeds, and drives strategic cross-functional programs across multiple catalog engineering teams.
