About the Role
Are you interested in working with the latest cloud computing technologies and becoming a core part of the largest cloud infrastructure on the planet? AWS is seeking a Systems Engineer to build and operate services for our customers, automate service operations and deployment methods, and provide mentoring for junior team members. You will work in a large-scale, high availability environment, building and operating critical Cryptography, Access and Identity services for our customers. This role is designed for someone with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving efficiency, quality, and process improvements within service operations.

As a Systems Engineer at Amazon, you will utilize your Linux skills to troubleshoot, innovate fixes and workarounds, keep software up-to-date, and provide data and metrics that help manage the capacity and efficiency of our services. You will draw on your networking knowledge to identify and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. You will recognize opportunities to build solutions that reduce manual toil across our organization.

Our Systems Engineering roles enable engineers to develop a broad range of skills; engineers take ownership and gain knowledge across a complex technology stack.

Key reasons to join our team:
- Learn how to build and operate distributed systems at massive scale
- Be a catalyst to deliver truly disruptive products that are growing rapidly
- Solve unique and first-order problems at massive scale across many AWS Services
- Build and influence the tools and utilities that are part of the AWS fleet running our internal services

Key job responsibilities
Amazon fosters a collaborative, purposeful, and enthusiastic environment where we "Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History." Our Systems Engineers are expected to be leaders in their teams by becoming subject matter experts on multiple AWS services. They develop, build, deploy, operate, sustain, and grow their services in cloud production environments. They utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements and help develop and refine procedures used by their team and internal customers. They develop at a high standard and can handle new and ambiguous problem domains while consistently delivering customer-impacting change.

A day in the life
On a typical day, engineers might build infrastructure and services for customers, dive deep into understanding the root cause of customer issues, investigate why a metric is trending incorrectly, and consult with senior engineers at Amazon. We own our services and strive to make out-of-hours support as painless as possible by implementing Operational Excellence best practices and automating manual processes.

About the team
AWS values diverse experiences and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. Whether your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, we welcome your application.
