About the Role
Join Network Rail Southern Region, one of the busiest and most dynamic parts of the UK railway, covering Wessex, Sussex, and Kent. As a Systems Thinking Specialist, you will help shape the future of Britain's railway during a transformative period as the industry evolves towards Great British Railways and greater public ownership. This new role is part of a growing Systems Thinking team dedicated to supporting leaders in tackling complex challenges, improving performance, and creating lasting organisational change.
This is not a traditional project management or continuous improvement role. You will work closely with frontline teams, managers, and senior leaders to understand how complex systems operate, identify factors influencing performance, and design sustainable interventions. Embedded within the business, you will build relationships, observe operations, and gain deep insight into operational challenges.
Your responsibilities will include leading and delivering systems thinking interventions, analysing complex systems and operating models, facilitating workshops, coaching leaders and teams, designing and testing new approaches, and building capability to ensure lasting impact. You will influence change across diverse functions and operational environments within the Southern Region.
This role offers varied, visible, and challenging work with the opportunity to influence high-profile change, shape future operating models, and contribute to the development of the railway industry during a significant period of transformation.
Experience
- Leading complex organisational change or transformation initiatives
- Outstanding stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Influencing, challenging, and coaching senior leaders
- Strong facilitation, consulting, and problem-solving skills
- Working in complex organisations with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities

- Analysing information, identifying patterns, and supporting evidence-based decision-making
- Experience within rail is not essential; candidates from utilities, transport, infrastructure, public services, emergency services, defence, manufacturing, or other complex, operational or highly regulated sectors are welcome
