Location
Scotland, UK, with travel to sites across Scotland and the North of England. Occasional national travel may be required.
Hours
Full Time. Early starts and/or overnight stays away from home on weekdays may be necessary. Flexibility regarding out-of-hours and weekend work is expected.
Salary
£29,000 - £32,000 per year depending on experience, plus overtime.
About the Role
Structural Soils, part of the RSK Group, is seeking an experienced and ambitious Team Leader to grow the Geotechnical site testing team in Scotland. The role is primarily office and yard based, focusing on planning logistics, organising equipment, maintaining calibration and training records, checking results, and liaising with team members as well as internal and external clients. Some on-site work and travel between sites will be required.
The successful candidate will manage and supervise geotechnical technicians performing a variety of site testing including Plate Load testing, Insitu CBR testing, Nuclear density gauge testing, soakaway/percolation testing, and environmental monitoring such as water, gas, leachate, air, and soil sampling. Duties also include maintaining UKAS accreditation, calibrations, and training, working closely with other departments to deliver projects to tight deadlines, and ensuring high standards of technical, quality, and reporting compliance.

Duties include:
- Client engagement on various sites
- Managing team workload and planning site visits for efficiency and commercial viability
- Supervising training of site technicians
- Operating field equipment and performing testing or sampling
- Generating and managing accurate field notes
- Maintaining vehicles and equipment
- Liaising with clients, contractors, and the public on site
Experience
- 2 to 3 years experience in geotechnical site testing or similar fieldwork (candidates with comparable experience may be considered)
- Experience with Plate Load testing, Insitu CBR testing, Nuclear density gauge testing, soakaway/percolation testing, environmental monitoring, hydrogeological testing, telemetry, and datalogging equipment is advantageous
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons
- Experience managing teams and planning logistics
- Confident working independently on site and as part of a team

Qualifications
- CSCS card
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as earth sciences, geography, or geology (desirable)
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification (desirable)
