We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, dynamic and highly motivated person to work with our Digitally Aided Making technical team at the Royal College of Art. This team supports a wide variety of programmes with 2D and 3D digital manufacturing processes activities across RCA. We have Laser cutting, Zund digital cutting, Fiber Laser cutting for metals, and CNC milling workshops in our Battersea South and Kensington buildings. This is a fixed term maternity cover post, available from May 2024 for up to 1 year duration on a full time basis - (please be aware the contract could end earlier if the substantive post holder returns sooner than expected).
The day job as a Technical Instructor in Digitally Aided Making:
Provide technical support, advice, and demonstrations in Digitally Aided Making spaces.
Deliver technical instruction on making using 2D digital manufacturing with Laser Cutting and Digital cutting.
Continual learning as part of a dynamic team.
Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
Maintain specialist equipment and applicable health and safety, keeping accurate records.
Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity as appropriate for the role.
What you will need to have:
Knowledge and experience of a variety of 2D digitally aided making processes, including Adobe Illustrator, Laser Cutting, and/or Digital cutting.
A practical understanding of model making techniques and prototyping.
Experience of delivering in person technical instruction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
The ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem solving skills.
Excellent user focus and a flexible approach.
Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Risk Assessment procedures.
