About the Role
Lead temporary accommodation and hostel services that support residents and deliver strong performance. Croydon Council is seeking an experienced Temporary Accommodation Manager to lead its Temporary Accommodation and Homeless Hostel Teams. This key operational management role is responsible for ensuring the service meets performance expectations and delivers in line with statutory, regulatory and professional standards. You will lead and support staff, manage service performance, oversee temporary accommodation processes and work closely with internal teams, landlords, contractors and partner agencies.
You will provide day-to-day leadership to the Temporary Accommodation and Hostel Teams, ensuring resources and workloads are effectively managed and that the service delivers expected outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, motivating and supporting staff to meet service objectives and key performance indicators.
- Planning and coordinating resources and workloads across the teams.
- Developing, implementing and reviewing temporary accommodation and hostel policies and procedures.
- Overseeing occupancy checks, tenancy management and sustainment, void management, property handbacks and tenancy termination.
- Ensuring temporary accommodation void turnaround times are kept to a minimum and allocations are made fairly and in line with Council procedures.
- Leading a coordinated, multi-agency approach to advice and support for residents in temporary accommodation.
- Leading safeguarding meetings and ensuring concerns relating to children and adults with care and support needs are appropriately referred.
- Responding to correspondence from Members, MPs and the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman within agreed timescales.
- Providing performance information, identifying risks and recommending action where service delivery issues arise.

Experience
Strong experience managing temporary accommodation, homelessness, hostels or related housing services. Proven ability to lead and manage staff, deliver strong performance management and service planning, and develop and apply operational policies and procedures. Knowledge of temporary accommodation, tenancy management and homelessness services. Experience working with landlords, contractors, internal services and partner agencies. Ability to analyse performance information, identify risks and recommend improvements.

Organised and confident in managing competing demands. Committed to delivering an effective and responsive service for residents in temporary accommodation. Strong written and verbal communication skills including report preparation and advising senior officers and elected Members. Sound knowledge of relevant housing and homelessness legislation. Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
Qualifications
