About the Role
Rail Delivery Group (RDG) partners with Britain’s train operators to put customers at the heart of everything we do, delivering essential services and dedicated experts who keep the nation’s railway running efficiently. From journey information, reservations and Railcards to improving performance, safety and accessibility, we drive the services and people that keep the railway moving. We are integral to the running of the railway and play a crucial part at every stage of the customer journey – making sure we deliver a better railway for all our customers, now and in the future.

As we embark on a new era for rail, we are looking for a Project Manager to join us. This role will project manage several workstreams as part of the wider Traincrew Programme, an industry initiative supporting best practice in traincrew resourcing. You will help deliver improvements to how the industry manages and delivers traincrew resourcing, focusing on achieving the long-term driver strategy.

You will support subject matter experts to ensure project outputs are delivered on time, on budget, and in line with industry requirements. The role is accountable for the successful project management of Traincrew workstreams, establishing structures to meet objectives and deliver intended benefits in partnership with the programme lead and change recipients.

Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing delivery plans aligned with industry requirements
- Monitoring project activity, risks and issues in line with RDG governance
- Identifying and engaging key stakeholders according to the Traincrew Programme’s stakeholder and communications plan
- Coordinating and attending working group and steering group sessions
- Providing regular written and verbal reports to governance and stakeholder groups to support the Traincrew Board

This is a cross-industry role requiring collaboration with senior leaders and frontline staff across train operators, Network Rail, 3rd party suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery and adoption of project outputs.

Requirements

Experience
Proven track record in managing programmes/projects with relevant qualifications such as Prince2 or MS Project. Rail industry experience is desirable but not essential.

Key skills and knowledge include:
- Project delivery and governance: Planning, managing and controlling workstreams using appropriate project management methods, governance, reporting and assurance processes to deliver on time, cost and quality expectations.
- Stakeholder engagement and influencing: Building trusted relationships across Traincrew Programme stakeholders, train operators, Network Rail and industry partners; communicating clearly and influencing others to secure alignment and adoption of outputs.
- Risk, issue and dependency management: Proactively identifying, tracking and escalating risks, issues and dependencies with practical mitigations to keep workstreams on track.
- Change and benefits realisation: Understanding how project outputs support wider programme outcomes and working with stakeholders to embed change, monitor benefits and support long-term improvements.
- Communication and reporting: Producing clear written and verbal updates tailored for senior leaders, operational colleagues and industry stakeholders.
- Planning, organisation and attention to detail: Maintaining robust plans, actions, records and project controls to ensure well-organised activity and timely decision-making.
- Collaboration and partnership working: Working constructively across organisational boundaries to develop practical outputs that meet industry needs.
- Problem solving and continuous improvement: Applying sound judgement to resolve delivery challenges, learning from feedback and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Accountability and self-management: Taking ownership of deliverables, managing competing priorities and demonstrating resilience in a complex stakeholder environment.
- Inclusive and values-led behaviour: Demonstrating RDG’s ASPIRE values through accountable, supportive, respectful and inclusive working with colleagues and industry partners.

About you
You are motivated by meaningful work and want to play a role in the future of Britain's railway. You are able to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, from senior leaders to frontline staff, and are comfortable managing complex projects with multiple workstreams. You demonstrate strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, and embody inclusive and values-led behaviours aligned with RDG’s culture.
