As an Associate Optimisation Engineer, you will join the Strategic Support Team (SST) at Optimatics, working at the forefront of applying optimisation and machine learning to water systems. You will collaborate directly with clients to support their use of the Optimizer™ and AssetAdvanced™ software packages, helping optimise planning decisions for water infrastructure networks.
Your responsibilities will include supporting and guiding utility and consultant engineers in applying these software tools, delivering user training and pilot implementations, reviewing hydraulic models and input data, and contributing to product development through testing and documentation. You will also explore new application opportunities and travel to client sites as needed.
This role requires strong technical expertise in hydraulic modelling, data science, or optimisation, combined with excellent communication skills to work effectively with clients and diverse teams.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year professional experience in the water sector
- Experience with water utility networks including collection and distribution systems
- Distribution/transmission system modelling experience (e.g. EPANET, WaterGEMS, InfoWorks WS Pro)
- Collection system H&H modelling experience with InfoWorks ICM; familiarity with EPASWMM, MIKE 1D is advantageous
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS and/or QGIS
- Advanced data analysis skills including coding or data visualization software
- Project management experience and ability to manage customer relationships

Qualifications
- BSc/BEng or higher in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Chartered Member of a recognised engineering institution or actively working towards chartership
- Knowledge of optimisation techniques and their application to water systems is preferred
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Ruby is a plus
- Data science experience including data interpretation and visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI) is desirable
