About the Role
As a Visiting Officer, you will be responsible for receiving and investigating applications from people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, ensuring that their housing and support needs are assessed and met in accordance with the Council’s statutory duties and policies. Your duties will include completing visits to temporary accommodation properties within Dartford Borough and out of borough, meeting with families and individuals to update their circumstances and offer support, guidance and assistance. You will produce comprehensive visiting reports, upload these to customers’ housing applications, and ensure robust data entry for statistical reporting purposes. You will escalate any safeguarding concerns to management and report accordingly. Additionally, you will investigate housing disrepair issues such as damp and mould, liaise with temporary accommodation providers and the Council’s repairs team to ensure repairs are completed, and investigate complaints regarding accommodation standards. You will provide applicants with comprehensive advice on the full range of housing options available, working in partnership with the wider housing solutions team to create viable housing pathways where homelessness cannot be prevented. Developing and maintaining close working relationships with a broad range of council services and partners to encourage joint working and secure necessary support for applicants will also be key to your role.

Interviews will take place between Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th November.

Experience
Experience in housing, homelessness, or related support roles is desirable to effectively assess and assist applicants.

You will be compassionate, proactive, and able to work independently while maintaining strong communication and partnership skills. You should be confident in conducting visits, producing detailed reports, and managing sensitive information with discretion. A commitment to safeguarding and improving housing outcomes for vulnerable people is essential.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in housing, social care, or related fields would be advantageous but are not explicitly required. A willingness to learn and develop professionally within the role is important.
