About the Role
The principal role of UK Export Finance (UKEF) is to support UK companies exporting to foreign markets by providing insurance, loans, and guarantees against non-payment or non-performance by UK exporters and overseas buyers. UKEF assumes significant credit risks on behalf of UK exporters, making sound credit risk assessment crucial, especially given the elevated default risks in emerging markets.
The Risk Management Group (RMG), led by the Chief Risk Officer, manages UKEF’s risk portfolio including new business credit risk assessments. RMG operates through five divisions: Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Assessment, Analysis (Pricing & Portfolio Risk, Operational Research & Analysis, Economics & Country Risk), Portfolio Management, and Restructuring, Claims & Recoveries.
The Risk Assessment Division (RAD) provides probability of default (PD) ratings and loss given default (LGD) assessments on all non-sovereign risks. RAD’s case work is divided into three teams: Corporates and Strategic sectors; Project Finance; and Specialised Products Risk (Aerospace, Financial Institutions, and Active Portfolio Management).
The Active Portfolio Management (APM) Branch identifies packages and transfers UKEF risk with financial intermediaries. After transaction approval, APM monitors risk concentration and explores methods to reduce portfolio risk. Working closely with all business areas, APM develops coordinated strategies to optimise UKEF’s use of funds, increasing capacity under country limits and reducing the likelihood of cash-calls on the exchequer. APM supports UK exporters ensuring cost-efficient risk management.
This role involves supporting the Senior Manager (APM) across all team functions, including portfolio management, relationship management, policy development, training, and project work. The role currently does not include line management but may in the future.
