Salary
£37,919 per annum plus a Flexibility Payment (FP) Level 2 worth £12,400 p.a. (National) or £13,300 p.a. (London), paid in addition to basic salary.
About the Role
Join HM Revenue and Customs' Internal Investigations team as an Anti-Corruption Investigation Officer, where your work will protect the organisation’s integrity and public trust. You will investigate serious allegations involving HMRC staff, internal fraud, corruption, and threats to the tax and benefits systems. This role involves gathering intelligence and evidence on individuals, corporates, and Organised Crime Groups (OCGs), supporting criminal investigations, and handling sensitive intelligence and whistle-blowing concerns.
Key responsibilities include operating within legal frameworks such as RIPA, CPIA, PACE, and POCA; gathering evidence and witness statements; acting as a Disclosure Officer/Deputy Disclosure Officer; conducting surveillance (training provided); carrying out interventions including searches, arrests, interviews, and seizure of goods; maintaining case records using the Fraud Case Management System (FCMS); preparing and attending court for production orders and search warrants; compiling case reports and evidential bundles for the Crown Prosecution Service; and maintaining high professional standards and integrity.
This role requires significant travel and overnight stays. You will work closely with government and law enforcement experts, contributing to cases that uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. A comprehensive training programme is provided, including a 4-week residential course with personal safety training and practical exercises. Successful completion of training is essential to continue in the role.

Experience
- Demonstrable experience in a criminal investigation role, including practical application of legislative frameworks such as PACE 1984, RIPA 2000 and/or IPA 2016, CPIA 1996, and Property Interference under the Police Act 1995.
- Experience executing and supporting operational activity, including investigative powers, operational delivery, risk assessments, and interventions such as search warrants and production orders.
- Proven ability to develop or assure investigative strategies, identify key lines of enquiry, and apply technical expertise to progress complex cases.
- Strong understanding and application of the Manual of Guidance forms in an operational or investigative context.
- Ability to analyse complex information and intelligence, identify patterns, and make sound evidence-based decisions with effective communication to stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence.

Qualifications
You must hold at least one of the following:
- Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 1, Level 2 or above.
- Level 4 Diploma - Accredited Counter-Fraud Specialist/Officer or Level 4 Diploma - Accredited Counter-Fraud Manager.
- BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Enforcement (Investigation) or BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Enforcement (Intelligence) or BTEC Level 4 in Counter Fraud Intelligence Specialist.
Additional requirements:
- Security Check (SC) Clearance is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid occupational health certificate confirming fitness for physical training.
- Willingness to undergo criminal record and internal fraud database checks.
- Ability to meet nationality and residency requirements for security vetting.
- This role is not suitable for contractual homeworkers due to attendance and operational requirements.
