About the Role
You will provide support and assistance to four young people living at Leyton Green Road. Your role involves attending to their practical, physical, and emotional needs, acting as an appropriate role model, and working closely with them to help address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential. You will take a lead role in ensuring the care and welfare of each child, offering guidance and support to children and their families in planning care by considering their wishes, feelings, and opinions in all matters affecting them (the voice of the child). You will provide support that meets and exceeds The Care Act and the Children and Families Act (2014). You will raise any concerns with the Registered Manager as appropriate. Our aim is to safeguard children and young people, provide a good standard of living, promote their wellbeing, and take all their wishes, thoughts, feelings, and preferences into account.

Overall, we strive to provide a safe, loving environment that allows young people to develop and achieve, leading to as independent a life as possible in the future.

Key Responsibilities
Key tasks during shifts include thorough planning before and after handover, with detailed and allocated tasks set using our shift planner. You will support children and young people with personal care, respecting their dignity. Medication will be administered in line with policy. You will encourage and support attendance at education and home learning projects. Assistance with meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and other domestic tasks is required, with meals planned weekly considering children’s choices, preferences, and dietary needs. You will ensure children and young people are encouraged and supported to participate in activities, including developing independence skills at an appropriate level.

Requirements

Experience
Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs. Experience of working with children and families with specific, multiple, and complex needs. Experience of partnership working.

About You
Excellent interpersonal skills. Good planning and organisational skills. Proven initiative and judgement to identify and resolve problems. Ability to work with minimum supervision, using problem-solving skills and initiative to provide a customer-focused support service. Ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs, timescales, and deadlines of others. Ideally hold a full clean driving license and be prepared to drive the home's minibus (not essential).

Qualifications
English and Math qualifications. Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification. Ideally hold a minimum Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care or equivalent; if not, you will be required to work towards it within 2 years. Knowledge of a range of legislation and policy frameworks relating to children and young people. Knowledge and understanding of families from a range of cultures and communities. Good ICT skills including standard Microsoft applications and specialist systems. Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
