About the Role
We are seeking dedicated, qualified and experienced Social Workers to join our Assessment teams within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Our service is supportive, focused, and inspirational, with a shared purpose to nurture independence and freedom of choice in children, young people, and families, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes. Staff work collaboratively to build and maintain a centre of excellence and best practice. You will be encouraged to share ideas, bring about positive change, and continuously improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

As a Home Office–licensed sponsor, please note that this role does not provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship; candidates must already hold UK work authorisation that does not require sponsorship.

Key responsibilities include conducting assessments of children and young people’s circumstances to determine appropriate interventions, planning and implementing actions for allocated cases, providing professional advice to colleagues and partner agencies, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and carrying out all duties with safeguarding awareness. You will also provide advice to assist with financial assessments and proactively develop your professional knowledge, skills, and behaviours while adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements

Experience
Proven social work experience or placement in children and families settings with a minimum of one year’s post-qualifying experience. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of issues relating to children in need, child protection, and looked-after children, including relevant legislation, guidance, and procedures. Experience delivering culturally sensitive services responsive to a multi-cultural community. Ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure while managing quality service delivery and meeting key performance indicators. Experience working well within a team and maintaining clear reporting lines.

About you
Display agile behaviours and adapt effectively to change. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to follow through on required actions. Commitment to the participation of children, young people, and their families at both individual and service levels. Willingness to work flexible or unsocial hours at short notice in rare emergency situations.

Qualifications
Understanding of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and other relevant legislation, procedures, and guidance relating to children and families is desirable. Awareness of current issues in childcare policy and practice. Commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and responsibility for its practical application. Understanding and compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Continued professional body registration is required.
