About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Media Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to lead, drive and deliver a strategic, evidence-based and highly engaging approach to social media and other digital channels including e-newsletters and WhatsApp Channels for the entire council. You will set up content planning and governance frameworks, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and aligned with council values and objectives. You will develop and grow channels based on a deep understanding of audience demographics and behaviours, supported by regular community and content audits to inform a holistic multi-channel approach. While not directly responsible for web content, you will collaborate with colleagues in the Digital team to develop effective journeys linking engagement-based content and static web content to a range of resident outcomes. The council is a Home Office–licensed sponsor; however, this role does not provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Candidates must already hold UK work authorisation that does not require sponsorship.

Experience
- Extensive knowledge and experience using a wide variety of social media channels and developing successful strategies
- Proven experience managing and growing social media communities
- Skilled in driving a multichannel ecosystem using data analytics and social media scheduling tools
- Experience creating video and infographics for digital platforms and managing their distribution
- Experience devising and delivering paid social media advertising campaigns and paid search (PPC)
- Experience planning and delivering integrated communications strategies and activities
- Knowledge of communications governance, quality assurance mechanisms, social media effectiveness audits, and setting up communities of practice
- Experience advising senior managers and/or elected members on communications and reputation matters
- Ability to identify target audiences and devise digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
- Desirable experience optimizing landing pages and user funnels
- Solid knowledge of website analytics tools
- Experience setting up and optimizing Google AdWords campaigns
- Experience working across communications projects including campaigns, marketing, stakeholder engagement and events
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines
- Proven problem-solving skills in communications and engagement challenges
- Understanding of local government, council services, and responsibilities to residents
- Excellent writing skills with clear, concise, and engaging prose tailored to diverse audiences
- Strong oral communication skills and ability to maintain effective relationships at all organisational levels
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, approachable formats
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in pressured environments

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or demonstrable experience in social media management, digital communications, marketing, or a related field are desirable but not mandatory. A strong portfolio of work and proven track record in managing complex digital channels is essential.
