About the Role
We are seeking an organised, proactive, and collaborative Governing Board Clerk to join our central team. As Governing Body Clerk, you will play a key role in coordinating governance processes, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the work of our Governance Boards and their committees. You will be the first point of contact for governance enquiries, ensuring stakeholders receive clear, timely, and well-informed guidance. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will help ensure compliance and promote effective decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have clerking experience, be an excellent communicator with strong administrative skills, have experience in a governance or compliance-focused environment, and a genuine interest in supporting effective leadership. Key responsibilities include offering advice on best practice in governance, ensuring statutory policies are in place and updated, managing the annual calendar of governing body meetings, contributing to the induction of governors, liaising with those preparing papers to ensure timely availability, ensuring meetings are quorate, recording attendance and apologies, providing draft minutes within five working days, advising on governor appointments and elections, chairing election meetings, and accurately recording and summarising complex discussions and legislation.
Experience
Experience in clerking or governance roles is desirable, with strong administrative and communication skills. Experience summarising and interpreting legislation or detailed information and communicating it clearly is important.

You should be organised, proactive, collaborative, and able to work independently with attention to detail. A genuine interest in supporting effective leadership and governance is essential.
Qualifications
The post holder is expected to have attended, or be in the process of registering to attend, the National Development Programme for Clerks to Governors. You will be required to undertake appropriate and regular training and development to maintain knowledge and improve practice. Keeping up-to-date with current educational developments and legislation affecting school governance is essential. A background in education is desirable.
