Introduction You will be working in the Select Committee Team (SCT), supporting the work of the House of Commons select committees. Select committees are cross-party committees of MPs who examine government policy and spending. This post is part of SCT Communications, a team of communications, digital and engagement professionals that provides a dedicated service to select committees. The Role The Communications and Engagement Apprentice works across the Select Committee Communications Team. The team works together to promote select committee work, and facilitate targeted public engagement campaigns. During your apprenticeship, you will work closely with three teams within SCT Communications, gaining the skills and experience needed to support the communications of select committee work. This includes creating content, developing effective communications plans, and planning, measuring and evaluating communications and engagement activities. Your role will include supporting the planning of communications activity across all three teams. This role is an apprenticeship. Successful candidates will be enrolled on the Level 4 Public Relations and Communication apprenticeship and will complete training for 20% of their time, including from an apprenticeship training provider. In this role, you will: Contribute to the overall planning calendar of committee communications, helping bring together different sources of information and supporting planning meetings. Support the Digital and Publishing team to facilitate online public contributions to inquiries through surveys, polls and crowd-sourcing campaigns Monitor and, where appropriate, communicate directly with online communities including moderating discussions, upholding community guidelines, signposting information and answering questions about committee work Work closely with committee teams, Digital Account Managers, Media and Communications Officers and Engagement Officers to understand audience needs. Skills and Experience To be successful in this role you will demonstrate: Ability to work towards excellent written and oral communications skills, which includes grasping complex issues quickly and communicating them accurately and effectively to different audiences. Ability to understand and engage successfully with a range of people, with an awareness of audience diversity and an ability to tailor messages to attract the interest of people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work successfully on your own and in a team, this includes working under pressure, identifying and adapting priorities to changing circumstances and tackling complex tasks and issues. Interest in Parliament and/or current affairs, and an understanding of risk management.
