One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both. Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible for as long as possible. About the role Dementia UK is seeking a senior clinical nurse to offer expert clinical advice and support for children and young people facing issues in relation to dementia. This is an exciting new opportunity that is part of our strategy to expand our services to underserved communities. As Consultant Admiral Nurse specialising in children and young people, you will play a significant role ensuring that the needs of children and young people affected by dementia are represented in national policy, research, and clinical guidance. Your responsibilities will extend to providing strategic, professional, and clinical leadership in Admiral Nursing, actively contributing to and influencing educational programs. You will also be instrumental in developing resources to increase awareness and promote best practice in supporting children and young people. You will offer clinical advice and support via telephone, online, and in clinics, dedicating a minimum of 25% of your time to providing specialist clinical advice and support to improve the wellbeing of children and young people who may find it difficult in understanding and coping with a diagnosis of dementia in the family. In collaboration with healthcare and social care partners, your role will involve offering specialist advice to other Admiral Nurses and professionals across the health and social care sector as well as disseminating high quality education and research to other professionals. Your leadership capabilities will be crucial in motivating staff at all levels as well as holding the ability to develop and lead on policy relating to children and young people living with the effects of dementia. To be successful in this position, you will need to be a Registered Nurse/Registered Children’s Nurse educated to, or working towards a Master’s degree in a health and social care subject or equivalent qualification or experience. Your extensive background in supporting children, young people and families facing dementia, coupled with an expert understanding of the effects of dementia on children and young people, will be essential. You will also be able to exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, possessing an ability to reach complex and critical judgements, and have decision making skills to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.
