About the Role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the critical servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual customer access to innovation. As a Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Cluster Manager, you will lead a large organization managing multiple data centers in the London cluster, overseeing managers responsible for critical facility infrastructure. This role requires a strategic leader who leads by example and is hands-on when necessary. You will be responsible for maintaining 100% service uptime, managing operational excellence, and collaborating with global teams to represent London Data Center Engineering Operations. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards of safety, security, and operational excellence while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Hire, manage, and develop the operations management team including Facility Managers, Chief Engineers, and Facility Technicians
- Ensure operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems including preventive and corrective maintenance
- Maintain 100% service uptime across the cluster
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on critical facility operations
- Build and maintain a sustainable organizational structure and develop hiring strategies
- Collaborate with business development, engineering, and construction teams to forecast staffing needs
- Manage colocation data center service providers to meet or exceed SLAs
- Lead safety, security, and availability incident response and root cause analysis
- Manage OPEX and CAPEX costs associated with all data centers under your responsibility
- Conduct regular Data Center Engineering Operations meetings and reporting
- Liaise with global teams to implement initiatives locally
- Drive continuous improvement of operational processes and lead energy efficiency initiatives
- Support capacity planning and management activities

Experience
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, and air handling units
- Experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Experience working with CMMS software
- Experience leading apprenticeship programmes and structured talent pipelines
- Military background or experience working with veteran talent pipelines is welcomed

Qualifications
- Health and Safety NVQ Level 3 or NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation relevant to the built environment including PSSR, LOLER, COSHH, and CDM regulations (preferred)
- Experience managing critical vendor relationships and chairing vendor governance forums (preferred)
- HV Authorisation (AP/CP level) or equivalent (desirable)
