About the Role
Do you want to be at the heart of real Defence issues and play a key role in the United Kingdom’s national security? Established in April 2016, the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) delivers nuclear capability to deter threats and protect our nation. The DNO oversees all defence nuclear business (excluding operations) and is responsible for providing nuclear deterrence; sponsoring the Defence Nuclear Enterprise; and advising on UK nuclear policy, planning and international co-operation on nuclear matters.
The UK’s independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years to deter the most extreme threats to our national security and that of our NATO Allies. To ensure a credible and capable deterrent, we are building four new nuclear armed submarines – the Dreadnought Class – and replacing our nuclear warheads. These renewal programmes showcase world-leading technology and British industry prowess.
At DNO, diversity and inclusion are essential for a thriving and successful organisation. We celebrate differences and foster a culture where people feel supported, included, and empowered.
The Nuclear Security Policy Team within the Security and Intelligence Division is responsible for maintaining clear, consistent policy frameworks for nuclear security and Nuclear Material Accountancy and Control (NMAC). This role is pivotal in leading a review of NMAC policy, supporting assurance activities, and collaborating with stakeholders across MOD and suppliers.
The role involves reviewing, developing, publishing, and maintaining NMAC policy, supporting assurance activities, and developing related standards and guidance. It may also support other activities within the Security & Intelligence Division as required.
Flexible and condensed working patterns may be considered; however, due to security constraints, hybrid working is not suitable and regular office attendance is required.
