About the Role
DBT’s Grant Delivery Directorate is central to the department’s mission to drive economic growth by combining expertise in funding, programme delivery and counter-fraud. This senior leadership role requires a blend of grants, commercial and business finance expertise to ensure public investment delivers value for money and outcomes that drive growth and benefit communities.

You will provide senior leadership over a complex portfolio of schemes, including major grant schemes and investments aligned with DBT’s economic growth objectives. Applying strong commercial acumen and financial judgement, you will oversee affordability, deliverability and value for money across the portfolio.

Working closely with policy teams, HM Treasury, senior business stakeholders and delivery partners, you will shape interventions, challenge assumptions and lead negotiations on funding packages to maximise strategic impact. You will hold responsibility for large programme budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting, strong in-year control and clear articulation of financial risk and opportunity.

You will lead engagement with assurance and scrutiny bodies such as the National Audit Office and internal audit, providing confidence in DBT’s stewardship of public funds. Leading and developing a team of around 25 staff across multiple Grade 6 teams, you will build strong capability in grant delivery, commercial judgement and financial literacy.

This is an exciting and challenging role for someone who thrives in complexity, leads with confidence and is motivated to make a tangible difference to the public good. You will also contribute to the strategic leadership and transformation of the Grant Delivery Directorate and wider DBT priorities.
