About the Role
Working at HM Treasury places you at the heart of government, influencing decisions that shape the UK economy and impact lives across the country. This senior leadership role is central to how HM Treasury understands the global economy and its implications for UK economic policy. Reporting to the Director International Economics (Analysis), you will lead the Global Economics team, supporting the delivery of Treasury objectives through economic advice, international engagement, and professional leadership.
You will lead a high-performing, multisite team of approximately 13 analysts, shaping priorities, structures, and ways of working as the remit evolves. Your leadership will promote a diverse and inclusive environment where all staff can thrive.
Key responsibilities include advising on international economic policy, directing analysis work on global economic forces affecting the UK, and contributing to the Treasury’s international engagement, including supporting the Chancellor and senior officials at multilateral and bilateral meetings. You will also champion analytical excellence and professional standards within the International family and across Treasury.
This role offers the opportunity to influence UK economic policy at the highest level, working collaboratively across government departments and international partners to advance analytical and policy priorities in a complex global context.
Experience
- Experience in at least two of the following areas: international economic policy, economic analysis, or macro-economic policy.
- Some experience with national security issues is advantageous but not essential.
- Proven track record of leading teams to deliver complex, multi-faceted analytical agendas with high standards.
- Strong ability to communicate complex analysis and policy issues clearly and credibly.
- High-level interpersonal and influencing skills with experience developing and leveraging networks across internal, external, and international stakeholders.
