About the Role
This is a new standalone role providing expert legal advice and support on all employment law matters within UK Export Finance. You will advise on compliance with UK employment law and help mitigate associated legal risks across the organisation, primarily working with the Human Resources Division. The role involves developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the Government Legal Department (GLD).
You will advise HR and leadership teams on employment law issues including contracts, policies, disciplinary actions, grievances, redundancies, and restructures. You will monitor and interpret regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with evolving UK employment legislation and workplace regulations, and communicate implications to stakeholders.
The role includes drafting, reviewing, and updating employment contracts, template letters, staff handbooks, and related documentation. You will negotiate and prepare settlement agreements and severance packages.
You will also advise on transactional work related to employment aspects of the Department, manage Employment Tribunal claims and other employment-related disputes, liaise with external counsel, and oversee litigation strategy when necessary.
Strategic support responsibilities include providing employment law input on mergers, acquisitions, and organisational changes, identifying potential legal risks in workforce decisions, and proposing mitigation strategies.
Additionally, you will coordinate, arrange, and deliver training sessions to HR and management, translating employment law into practical day-to-day application, and support internal investigations and compliance initiatives.
Occasionally, you may be required to advise on wider organisational activities including public law matters, public procurement law, international agreements governing export credits, information law including Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, and UK GDPR. This list is not exhaustive and additional duties may be required according to business needs.
